Japan appeal to WTO for Canada’s solar policy
Kyodo News, on Jane 1st, the Japanese government declared to establish the WTO Dispute panel. Since 2009, Ontario, Canada promulgate of solar energy and other natural energy resources policy which provides preferential treatment to local enterprise. This preferential treatment violates WTO rules.
In order to support the local solar industry, Ontario require the use of power generation equipment must have 40 ~ 50% of parts from local when in promoting solar and wind power purchase system.
Japanese government appealed to WTO for this unfair treatment the Japanese enterprise got last year. Afterwards, they had negotiations. But Ontario was further intensified the parts use rates from the local up to 50 ~ 60%. Then the Japanese decided to settle the problem via WTO dispute panel.
